Ever suffer from lack of sleep?
For the past couple of years, I’ve had real trouble with getting to sleep and staying that way throughout the night. Making me really tired during the day, feeling lethargic and not having the energy to do pretty much anything.
I’ve tried numerous different things, but the biggest thing I thought was that I am a person who has to have the TV on when going to sleep. If not then I at least have to be listening to something, I can’t have silence. I started to wonder whether it was my TV that was keeping me awake, so I started listening to podcasts going to sleep, especially anything Kevin Smith related (GEEK ALERT). That helped for a little while, but I still didn’t feel relaxed when going to bed.
I am not one for using sleeping pills or anything like that, even if it’s herbal. I just don’t want to be tied to something like a tablet to help me sleep. I wanted to find something natural, that put me at ease and made me really relaxed for bedtime, as I am a person that can’t switch off.
I was in Primark one day and my friend Laura came across a marbled tin, inside was a Lavender candle. Not only had she picked something for me that was marble (my obsession) but she picked something that was lavender and my brain lightbulb just went off. Maybe this could help me relax before going to bed. I started lighting the candle an hour before going to bed, to see whether it would chill me out. It worked!! I was starting to feel relaxed, less stressed before I slept, which was my biggest issue, I couldn’t switch off from the day, my brain would just not stop thinking. It didn’t overly help with my sleep itself, but it did make me more tranquil.
I started researching into a sleep spray for my pillow, something with lavender. After reading a few reviews on Amazon, I thought it would be worth a shot, what did I have to lose? But for some reason, I completely forgot to order anything, probably because I am a stickler for getting free delivery on Amazon and I didn’t have enough in my basket for that.
Funnily enough, my Step Nan bought something for my sister, as she struggles with sleep also and it was the spray I was looking at on Amazon. In the pack, there was 3 (great savings) and my sister gave me one of the bottles to try out as I got so excited when she opened them. It’s called Sleep Serenity with Camomile and Lavender Pillow Mist from Avon. My main concern was whether it was going to be quite an artificial and overbearing smell; not at all. It’s pleasant and subtle and really helps when I’ve blown out the candle, as the lavender smell is overtaken by the smell of….a blown out candle.
Spraying this on my pillow before going to bed has been great! Has it completely sorted the problem? No. Has it made it easier? Hell yes.
It is now my routine to spray that on my pillow before I settle down for the night. I am terrible at remembering to do stuff, like tablets, skincare routine etc. But this? This has become such a part of my life, that I will now take it everywhere I go.
What I love about it, is that it’s such a reasonable price for 3 bottles. The smell isn’t strong and I think this is down to having a mix of camomile in it. I am absolutely amazed at how this has become such a big part of my life and my sleeping habits. If I don’t smell this when closing my eyes, I don’t think I’d be able to sleep.
I would really recommend this to anyone who has sleeping troubles. Like I said, it hasn’t completely resolved my issues, but it’s definitely helped!
